Safety First: Trust Your Instincts
Protect Yourself...
Change your regular travel habits.
Shop and bank in a different place
Cancel any bank accounts or credit cards; open new accounts at a different bank.
A charged cell phone will connect with 911 regardless of activated service.
If you have a protective injuction, have a copy of it accessible at all times.

Protecting Your Children...
Teach them NOT to get in the middle of a fight, even if they want to help.
Teach them how to get to safety, to call 911, to give your address/location, phone #.
Give the principal at shcool/daycare center a copy of protective injunctions/orders; tell them not to release your child/children to anyone without talking to you first. Use a password so they can be sure it is you on the phone. Make sure that the school knows not to give your address or phone# to ANYONE.
Make sure the children know who to tell at school if they see the abuser or a susicious person.

At Home...
Learn where to get help; memorize ER #.
Keep a phone in a room you can lock from the inside; if you can, i.e. cell phone. (Keep a charger at your bedside.)
Change locks on windows and doors.
Plan an escape route; teach it to your children. Pack a bag with important thngs you'd need if you had to leave quickly; put it in a safe place, or give it to a friend/relative.
Ask your neighbors to call police if they see anything out of the ordinary at your house.
Secure an unlisted phone #. Block caller ID. Use an answering machine to screen calls.
If possible, take a good self-defense course.

At Work...
ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. Stairwells are a high risk crime spot - especially at night.
Advise supervisors of any form of harrassment or suspicious incident/person. Save any type of documentation of contacts (voice/e-mails; notes, etc.)
Don't go out alone. Don't hesitate to request a security guard to escort you to your source of transportation.
If possible, give a picture of the suspect to security & co-workers.

Always Remember...Predators will utilize any means possible to lure their victims into responding.

In Public...
Do Not hand your wallet/purse to a robber. Throw it as far away as possible and RUN - in a ZigZag PATTERN. If they have a firearm, you are not in their control; chances are slim that they could seriously injure you. They are usually more interested in the money and will go after it.
